Dress Rental — The Complete Guide to Choosing the Perfect One

Everything you need to know before renting your dress — from prices to the questions to ask at the shop.

In short

  • Renting saves 70–80% of the purchase price
  • Start your search 3–6 months before the event
  • Take your measurements before visiting the shop
  • Read the contract — ask about the deposit, return and damage
  • Many shops also rent accessories

Why Choose to Rent a Dress?

Finding the perfect dress for a wedding, engagement or important event can be both challenging and expensive. But renting dresses is becoming the most popular choice in Albania — and for good reason.

Save a Significant Amount

A wedding or engagement dress can cost anywhere from 30,000 to 200,000 lek. By renting, you pay only 20–30% of the original price. That means a dress costing 100,000 lek can be rented for just 20,000–30,000 lek — freeing up budget for makeup, hair, or the honeymoon.

Endless Choice

Rental shops offer hundreds of styles: wedding dresses with long trains, modern engagement dresses, evening gowns for galas and parties, and designs from well-known designers. The chance to try many styles without a financial commitment is a privilege buying doesn’t offer.

Eco-Friendly and No Storage Worries

A dress is usually worn only once. By renting you reduce textile waste and contribute to a cleaner environment. And after the event, you return it — no dry cleaning, no taken-up wardrobe space, no worries.

How to Choose the Right Dress

Start Early

Don’t leave it to the last minute. The ideal timing:

  • 3–6 months before for weddings and engagements
  • 2–3 months before for other important events
  • 1 month before — still possible, but with more limited choices

The most popular styles and colors get booked quickly. Extreme sizes (very small or very large) are always the first to run out.

Know Your Body

Before visiting the shop, take your measurements: bust, waist, hips and the length from shoulder to floor in heels. Bring them written down — it will save you time and help you find the right size right away.

What to Ask at the Shop

When you go for a fitting, don’t hesitate to ask:

  • How many days can I keep the dress?
  • Are alterations included in the price?
  • What happens if I stain or damage it?
  • When do I pick it up and when do I return it?
  • Is dry cleaning offered?
  • Is there a replacement guarantee if it doesn’t fit?

Try at least 3–5 different styles and bring someone you trust for a second opinion.

Read the Contract Carefully

Before you sign, understand:

  • Duration — usually 4–8 days; pick it up 1–2 days before the event
  • Return — the date, time and late fee
  • Deposit — how much it is, and what counts as damage

Mistakes to Avoid

Waiting until the last minute — limited choices and unnecessary stress.

Not reading the contract — unexpected fees and misunderstandings about the terms.

Choosing based only on a photo — the dress may look different in person; always try it on.

Ignoring measurements — a dress that’s too big or too small needs costly alterations.

Preparing for the Big Day

2–3 days before: Pick up the dress, try it on right away and check for any existing damage. Report anything to the shop.

On the day of the event: Put it on carefully, avoid strong perfumes directly on the dress, and keep an emergency kit with tape and safety pins handy.

After the event: Take it off carefully, place it in the original cover and return it on time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book? Ideally 3–6 months before for weddings, 1–2 months for other events.

Can I book online? Many shops offer online booking, but an in-person visit for a fitting is recommended.
